I love...
FOOD! I mean, really, who doesn’t?!
Mary & I have shared many meals and introduced each other to all different foods through the years.
One of the first times I went to Mary’s house after school, she made me Steak-Um’s. I wasn’t allowed to even use a stove, and there she was making us Philly Cheese Steaks! My mother is Middle Eastern, and although we did eat many “American” foods growing up, there were clearly a LOT of foods I missed. Mary made me my first PB&J and my first tuna melt, she always had the “good” cereal at her house, and would make us bananas in milk with brown sugar (if you have never tried it, you are missing out...my mouth is watering just thinking about it). Mrs. Presutti made a dinner we called “Concoction”, because it was never the same thing twice. She would take fresh vegetables from the fridge, canned ones in the cupboard, add garlic, herbs and spices and without fail, it was the most delicious meal, every time.
According to Mary, I introduced her to FISH! She remembers going out for dinner with my family for sushi, realizing it was all raw fish, and my mother ordering her a cooked entree. She now eats ALL the sushi!!! We used to go to a Bagel place in high school where I introduced her to lox and cream cheese on a bagel. Even when I lived in Barbados, we went on a deep sea fishing trip, and then ate everything we caught afterward!
Food is an amazing thing that brings people together and is 100% my love language!
